Amazon Auto Scaling is an easy-to-use web service to automatically launch or terminate Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances based on user-defined triggers.
This is the Amazon Auto Scaling Developer Guide. This section describes who should read this guide, how the guide is organized, and other resources related to autoscaling.
The following Amazon Web Services (AWS) products will occasionally be referred to using the following abbreviated forms; all copyrights and legal protections still apply.

Amazon Auto Scaling is a tool that allows users to create triggers that automatically start and terminate EC2 instances based on pre-determined rules. This service is used in conjunction with Amazon CloudWatch and Amazon Elastic Load Balancing services.
This guide is intended for developers, as well as those in IT/Operations, who are building web applications or services hosted in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud.
To use Auto Scaling, you must also be using Amazon CloudWatch.
Use of this guide assumes you are familiar with the following:
